Hyundai's Genesis to Enter Endurance Racing with LMDh Prototype

TapTechNews September 13th news, the automotive media motorsport reported yesterday (September 12th) that Hyundai's Genesis brand is developing a LeMansDaytonah (LMDh) prototype car to enter the endurance racing field.

Unlike the Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) built from scratch, the models manufactured according to the LMDh rules must use the unified specification chassis provided by Dallara, Ligiera, Multimatic or Oreca.

It is reported that Genesis has cooperated with Oreca to be responsible for designing and manufacturing this brand new supercar, and Hyundai Motorsport will independently develop its internal combustion engine.

In addition, it is reported that the internal combustion engine of this car is developed by HyundaiMotorsport and may face competitors including BMW, Cadillac, Porsche and Lamborghini as early as 2026.

Brief Introduction of LMDh

LMDh is the abbreviation of Le Mans Daytona h, which is a prototype racing car participating in endurance races. From 2023, it will participate in the GTP category of IMSA and the prototype category of FIAWEC together with Le Mans Hypercar racing cars.

The LMDh rules are jointly formulated by IMSA and ACO. The LMDh racing car will serve as the successor of the Daytona Prototype International Group DPi, and the competition rule is to integrate the rules planned for the next generation of Daytona Prototype International Group with the Le Mans Hypercar rule.
