Microsoft Allows Employees to Decide on Windows 11 Updates

The most notable improvement is that users can decide for themselves whether to upgrade in advance, which was not possible before.

In the past, the Windows Update for Business deployment service would look for updates related to the system, and would download and install them on devices without the need for user participation. If an IT administrator wants to postpone the update, they can create a phased rollout plan or set a delay for the device.

And now Microsoft further relaxes the restrictions, can push the update as an optional update method, giving the upgrade rights to the employees and letting them freely choose whether to install the update in advance. Microsoft said that there are the following benefits of doing so:

Early feedback: IT administrators can allow some users to choose to be early testers of new feature updates, thereby collecting valuable feedback and insights early.

Risk prevention: Testing can prevent risks. IT administrators can test new feature updates, realize benefits, and assess risks before deploying throughout the organization.

Increased work efficiency: If users can choose when to install the update, IT administrators don't have to worry too much about the organizational workflow and work efficiency being disrupted.

Microsoft said: 'The best thing is that IT administrators can always control which devices and when to get the updates. IT administrators can set the start push and phased push times, and let the users choose when to install the available updates'.

Microsoft said that the feature itself will be launched by May 24, 2024, and IT administrators can deploy this feature improvement through the new profile in the Microsoft Intune management center.
