TapTechNews noticed that as early as January 2023, Meta had already stopped adding new functions to the first-generation MetaQuest and stopped releasing new VR applications for this device in its Quest store. In the email, the company said: As long as developers continue to provide support, you can still download new applications and continue to use existing applications. However, if any security vulnerabilities are found in the future, personal data stored on the device or accessible from the device may be at risk of being leaked.

The first-generation Quest head-mounted display was released in 2018, then named Oculus Quest, and began to be sold in May 2019 with a starting price of $399 (TapTechNews note: currently about 2,904 Chinese yuan), and Meta stopped the production of this headset in September 2020.

After that, Meta launched the MetaQuest2 (originally known as OculusQuest2) in September 2020 with a starting price of $299. In October 2022, a more high-end MetaQuestPro was released with a price of $1,499.99. The company's latest VR headset, MetaQuest3, went on the market in the second half of 2023 with a starting price of $499.99.

Recently, the 128GB version of MetaQuest2 has迎来 a permanent price reduction, dropping to $199.99. However, according to RoadtoVR, the product inventory of this version seems to be decreasing, and currently Meta store is out of stock. MetaQuestPro is still on sale currently with a price of $999, and of course the latest MetaQuest3 is also being sold.

There are unsubstantiated rumors that Meta will launch a new cheaper VR headset in 2024, and UploadVR reported that the device may be named MetaQuest3S.
