RISC-V Architecture Promising Future in 2030

TapTechNews May 21st news, the analysis agency Omdia released a new report today, pointing out that the RISC-V architecture is full of promise and is expected to occupy 25% market share by 2030.

TapTechNews noted that Omdia expects the shipment of chips based on RISC-V to 'increase by 50% every year' starting from this year, and is expected to reach 17 billion chip shipments by 2030. Among them, the industry where RISC-V is most widely used will be the industrial industry, which is expected to account for 46% of sales; while the growth rate in the automotive industry is the fastest, and the shipment of related architecture chips is expected to increase by 66% every year.

The analysis agency emphasized the advantages of RISC-V for the automotive industry. In terms of business model, X86 is a closed instruction architecture with the highest power consumption; Arm has less scalability than X86 but has a medium energy consumption, while the RISC-V architecture has streamlined instructions and no historical burden, and also has the lowest power consumption, which can improve the overall performance of the automotive system and reduce the manufacturing cost.

Although RISC-V still faces the threshold of the software ecosystem, currently many leading chip companies and ecosystem manufacturers are actively promoting the layout of related products. RISC-V is continuously evolving towards more advanced manufacturing processes, stronger performance and more high-end applications.
