Microsoft Releases Windows Development Environment 2407 Update for Developers

TapTechNews July 13th news, Microsoft today released the Windows Development Environment (WDE) 2407 virtual machine update, integrating the latest cumulative update in July 2024, with the version number Build 22621.3880. Developers can use it for free for 90 days.

WDE 2407 is different from previous versions and only provides two formats, Hyper-V and VirtualBox. The VMware Workstation and Parallels Desktop versions (this version is for macOS) cannot be used temporarily due to unknown technical issues.

TapTechNews note: WDE is a free virtual machine environment that does not require activation and can be used for 90 days. It is mainly to provide developers with the tools needed to create Windows applications.

These tools include the Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition with enabled UWP,.NET Desktop, Azure, and Windows App SDK for C# and other workloads, the pre-installed Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (pinned to the taskbar) and Ubuntu, the installed Windows Terminal, and the enabled Windows Developer Mode.

Each virtual machine requires approximately 70GB of available disk space and 8GB of memory. Users can use them for free until October 9, 2024.
