IDC Report 2023 China's Large Model Platform and Application Market Size and Share

TapTechNews August 21, the International Data Corporation (IDC) today released a report on the market share of large model platforms and applications, showing that in 2023, the market size of large model platforms and related applications in China reached 1.765 billion Chinese yuan ($250 million).

The report pointed out that in the past year, the industry has been more of early investment, and even wait-and-see without heavy investment, so the overall market size in 2023 is not significant; and the market pattern is still mainly composed of early investors such as Baidu, SenseTime, Zhipu, Baichuan and other companies. Entering 2024, the leading Internet companies have increased their investment in large models and launched a price war, bringing certain competitive pressure to the early large model start-ups. It is expected that in the next 2-3 years, the market pattern will undergo multiple rounds of great changes.

TapTechNews attached the market share situation as follows:

Baidu Intelligent Cloud reached 350 million Chinese yuan ($50 million) in the large model market in 2023, ranking first in the market with a market share of 19.9%;

SenseTime Technology, benefiting from its dedicated investment in large models and the Shanghai AIDC it built that can provide customers with an integrated large model computing and application solution, ranked second in the market with a market share of 16.0%;

Zhipu AI is the winner among the start-ups in 2023 and ranks third in the market;

Followed by Baichuan Intelligence, Fourth Paradigm and other platforms.

The agency also said that although large models and generative AI are the biggest focus of today's technology market, the actual capabilities achieved by large models are still relatively low, and the large model capabilities of different technology providers still have certain differences. If enterprises cannot continue to invest in the base large model, it is very easy to fall behind and be eliminated in the next round of model capability competition.
