BMW Tops Tesla in European Electric Vehicle Sales in July

This marks a significant year-on-year increase of 35% for BMW and the first time it surpassed Tesla in the European electric vehicle market.

Although losing the champion throne, the Tesla Model Y still repeated as the local best-selling electric vehicle with a registration volume of 9,544. The Volvo EX30 (TapTechNews note: 6,573), Volkswagen ID.4 (5,295) ranked second and third respectively, and the Tesla Model 3 ranked fourth with a result of 4,694.

Reports said that BMW's iX1 SUV and the recently facelifted i4 GranCoupe ranked sixth and seventh respectively in the pure electric vehicle rankings that month, achieving sales of 4,305 and 4,198 respectively.

In total, the European auto sales in July were 1.03 million, an increase of 2% year-on-year. However, the sales of pure electric vehicles decreased by 6%, with a registration volume of 139,300, and the market share dropped to 13.5%.

Reports quoted Felipe Munoz, a global analyst at JATO Dynamics, as saying that (local) incentive measures and unclear future development prospects continue to prevent consumers from considering purchasing electric vehicles, and these factors and the lower residual value of electric vehicles have led to the decrease in electric vehicle sales in July.
