Earlier this year, Google removed its first-party web cache link function provided in the Google Search About This Result panel, citing that compared to the era when web caching was popular, the network speed has now significantly improved, and the situation of webpages not loading has been greatly reduced, and the role of web caching has significantly declined.

However, for a considerable number of people, especially those in the media and research communities, the cached version of the same webpage and its comparison with the current version are quite important and can unearth a large amount of valuable information; at the same time, a large number of previous URLs are no longer available, and caching is also an important means to preserve the history of the internet.

Google public liaison Danny Sullivan said at that time that he hoped to add the link of the Internet Archive WaybackMachine to the About This Result page to replace the removed Google first-party function. And now this vision has become a reality.

GoogleSearchLiaison indicates that this function will take about 1 day to be fully launched and will be available to users who search in more than 40 languages.

TapTechNews note: After full implementation, users can click the three dots next to the Google search result, and in the popped-up About This Result panel, select More About This Page to see the link pointing to the WaybackMachine cache.
