OpenAI Announces New Hires and Partnership with Apple

TapTechNews June 11th news, OpenAI officially announced today that it has hired two executives and established a partnership with Apple.

The company announced in a blog post that Sarah Friar, the former CEO of Nextdoor and CFO of Square, will join the company and serve as the chief financial officer (CFO). Friar is also the co-chair of the Digital Economy Laboratory at Stanford University.

In addition, Kevin Weil joined OpenAI as the chief product officer (CPO). He will lead a product team focused on applying research to products and services for consumers, developers, and enterprises. He has previously served as the former president of PlanetLabs, the senior vice president of products at Twitter, and the vice president of products at Facebook and Instagram.

OpenAI CEO Altman said, Sarah and Kevin bring extensive experience and will enable OpenAI to scale up operations, strategize for the next phase of growth, and ensure our team has the resources needed to continue developing.

At the same time, OpenAI announced a partnership with Apple. Apple is integrating ChatGPT into the experiences in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, allowing users to access the functions of ChatGPT (TapTechNews note: including image and document understanding) without having to jump between tools.

In addition, Apple's voice assistant Siri can also utilize the functions of ChatGPT. OpenAI claims that it will not store requests and users' IP addresses will be hidden.

The ChatGPT integration powered by GPT-4o will land on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS later this year. Users can access it for free without having to create an account, and ChatGPT subscribers can connect their accounts and directly access paid features from these experiences.
