Deepin V23 Completes LoongArch Adaptation, Achieving New Integration in Open-Source

LoongArch is the instruction set architecture used by the processors developed by the leading domestic independent CPU, Loongson中科, and its products include several high-performance multi-core desktop processors such as 3A6000, 3A5000, and 3B5000.

Cooperation

Loongson has maintained long-term and deep cooperation with the commercial distribution version of UOS of UnionTech, known as the Loong-Tong combination in the industry. The two sides have achieved remarkable achievements in ecological adaptation and commercial project implementation.

The deepin (depth) community established the deepinLoongArch Special Interest Group (SIG) this year. With the joint efforts of both sides, the deepin V23 LoongArch version has achieved many remarkable results.

Result One: Leap in Kernel Support

Through in-depth cooperation, the LoongArch SIG successfully introduced enhanced platform support for the LoongArch architecture in both the kernel 6.6 (long-term support version) and 6.9 (trial version).

Result Two: Revolutionary Desktop Support

Relying on the rich achievements and valuable experience accumulated by the SIG and the upstream community, the pre-installed software set of the deepin V23 LoongArch has now achieved a high degree of alignment in functionality with the x86 architecture: such as deepin mailbox, voice note, reader, etc. have all fully supported the LoongArch architecture, and widely used browsers and communication tools such as Firefox and Thunderbird have also been updated to the latest version to ensure that users can enjoy a complete, efficient and safe usage experience.

In addition, the LoongArch SIG has also deeply explored and integrated the libLoL LoongArch application compatibility layer from the Antong open source community, which effectively reduces the cost and difficulty of migrating from the old ecosystem to the new ecosystem.

Result Three: Improving the Development Toolchain

The LoongArch SIG has completed the adaptation work for basic tools such as GCC12, Binutils2.41, and LLVM17 in coordination.

The team introduced key functions such as LSX vector instruction set optimization support and connector Relaxation from the upstream and implemented preliminary functional ve rification to ensure the development function requirements of software vendors and users while ensuring version compliance.
