Unity 6 to Be Released Globally in 2024 with Enhanced Features

TapTechNews September 19th news, the official Unity Official Platform WeChat public account released an article this evening stating that Unity 6 will be globally released on October 17, 2024, which is the version of Unity with excellent stability and performance so far.

The official said that Unity 6 will bring the following features to developers:

Customizable graphics rendering functions, enhancing the ability to control visual effects;

Simplified multiplayer game development, accelerating the entire game development lifecycle;

Providing powerful tools for building rich games optimized for web browsers.

Unity CEO and President Matt Bromberg said that Unity 6 will be the best Unity version so far, and the official will provide deeper and longer-term support for it, as well as exclusive products and engineering resources after release. Developers will also get frequent updates, including new features, performance enhancements, and bug fixes, all of which are provided based on their feedback and with minimal interference to their ongoing projects.

TapTechNews learned from Unity that the first updated version of the Unity 6 series, Unity 6.1, will be released in April 2025. Unity 6.1 will be based on the core functions of Unity 6 and include some new features, such as support for foldable screens and larger screen formats, Deferred+ rendering in the GPU ResidentDrawer, and new build targets and build configuration files.

Unity's internal demo team will launch TimeGhost, a brand-new demo showing how developers can use multiple functions of Unity 6 to build realistic worlds. These functions include Entity Component System (ECS), Adaptive Probe Volume, Scenario Blending, and SpeedTree vegetation. In addition, the two scenes of the application of Unity ECS in environmental rendering and Unity Sentis in fabric deformation shown in TimeGhost will also be released along with Unity 6.
