Tech Giants' Race for AI Resources and Their Cooperation with Start-ups

TapTechNews May 25th news, with the increasing demand for AI, major tech giants have begun to compete for the scarce AI resources, and most of them will choose to cooperate with AI start-ups, such as Facebook's parent company Meta and Elon Musk's xAI.

The Financial Times of the UK said that Meta recently discussed cooperation with the chatbot start-up Character.ai. In addition, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI also negotiated with Character.ai about the cooperative relationship, but so far no agreement has been reached.

Insiders revealed that Character.ai can use the large language model to generate the dialogue styles of different characters and roles, and Meta discussed with it about the cooperation of researchers in projects such as pre-training and model development.

Meta announced last September that it will integrate AI character chatbots into its platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, and some of the chatbots can even imitate celebrities such as rapper Snoop Dogg.

According to sources, the focus of the discussion between the two sides is to advance research rather than acquire Character.ai. Due to concerns about the review of global regulatory agencies, tech giants are cautious about fully acquiring AI start-ups. For example, the $13 billion (TapTechNews note: currently about 94.25 billion yuan) cooperation agreement between Microsoft and OpenAI is being reviewed by the competition regulatory agencies in the UK and the US, although both sides insist that this is not a merger.

According to informed sources, Meta has also contacted other AI companies to seek potential partnership relationships. This move indicates that the company is increasing its investment in artificial intelligence, just as CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that he is determined to become a world-leading artificial intelligence company.
