For customers who purchase the EV9 or EV6 after September 4th, 2024, Kia will provide a NACS adapter for free. However, all existing owners will need to pay an undetermined fee.

The free adapter will start to be shipped to customers in early 2025, and existing owners can purchase the adapter from an authorized Kia dealer at a later date. General Motors also announced last week that all of its electric vehicle customers need to pay $225 to obtain a NACS adapter to use Tesla Superchargers.

Considering that future Kia electric vehicle models will be equipped with a native Tesla charging interface, this carmaker will also soon sell a reverse adapter so that these models can still use CCS-based DC fast chargers and secondary AC chargers. In addition, Kia will release a software update in early 2025 so that customers can pay and charge through the in-car infotainment system.

TapTechNews noted that Kia and its sister company Hyundai are among the last few carmakers to announce that they will adopt Tesla's NACS (North American Charging Standard) connector. Currently, Ford, Rivian and General Motors' vehicles have been able to charge using Tesla Supercharging stations.
