According to BusinessInsider, hundreds of Microsoft employees voluntarily shared their salary and promotion information, including detailed information of more than 500 US employees. The analysis shows that the average compensation of Microsoft software engineers ranges from $148,436 to $1,230,000, corresponding to job levels from Level59 to Level69. Among them, the average total compensation of software engineers in the newly established Microsoft AI department is $377,611 (TapTechNews note: currently about 1.893 million yuan), which is at least $120,000 higher than the average level of other departments (Azure, Cloud and AI, Experience and Devices).

The department was established in March to strengthen Microsoft's consumer AI strategy, including its CopilotAI chatbot and Bing search engine. Mustafa Suleyman, the co-founder of DeepMind, leads the team.

Although the leaked salary data is not complete information, the salary gap between the AI department and other departments is undeniable. On the one hand, it is understandable that Microsoft is willing to pay high salaries for AI talents. The company obviously believes that AI is the future direction of the industry, and many technology companies are chasing the limited AI talents, which will inevitably push up the salary level.

However, this is not easy for employees in other departments to accept. Although they are responsible for Microsoft's core products, their colleagues get higher salaries.
