This game originated from a casual chat in a café between Massive's managing director David Polfeldt and Disney in 2018 at the E3 gaming expo.

Gerighty said that the core team of Star Wars: Outlaws is the same as that of The Division 2, and they have been working together for more than ten years. However, this is a new field, and making Star Wars will inevitably involve more supervision.

It's actually surprisingly simple and very pleasant.

Gerighty said that Massive realizes the similarity of Ubisoft's open-world experiences such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, and confirmed that Star Wars: Outlaws is a Star Wars game, not a Ubisoft game with Star Wars overlaid on top.

We know very well about Ubisoft's style, and Massive has always been different. The Division and The Division 2 are different. Originally, Massive was an independent studio, and then a studio under Activision, so its thinking has always been very different. Massive has unique DNA compared to Ubisoft. However, there are many important lessons to be learned from Ubisoft's way of making games.
