iFLYTEK Chairman on Gap with US in AI, API Openness

TapTechNews on May 22, at the BEYOND International Technology Innovation Expo held in Macau, Liu Qingfeng, the chairman of iFLYTEK, said that the gap between China and the US in the general large model base is a dynamic catch-up within half a year to one and a half years and will not be left behind. The gap between us and GPT-4 is within half a year, and we will be able to catch up with the current level of GPT-4 around June and July this year. Once GPT-5 is released, the gap may be pulled to about one year, but we will catch up again.

Liu Qingfeng stated that the underlying logic of GPT-4o is still GPT-4, and iFLYTEK can catch up in June-July this year. The gap in AI large models between China and the US is half a year. On this basis, it is possible to do better than the US in the vertical field. Because the infrastructure and innovation model in the Chinese Internet field have more advantages than those in the US. iFLYTEK's technical level in the field of speech synthesis is not worse than that of GPT-4o, and the gap in the general large model between China and the US is between half a year and one year, and it is also one of the only two countries where artificial intelligence emerges.

Liu Qingfeng also mentioned that once AI has self-awareness, it is a very terrifying thing. Judging from the current technical route, there is no such risk in the short term. Whether we have created a new species and whether it will be uncontrollable in the future is the most important.

TapTechNews noticed that today iFLYTEK announced that the API capabilities of XF Spark are officially opened for free. Among them, the XF Spark Lite API is permanently free, and the XF Spark Pro/Max API is as low as $0.03/10,000 tokens (about 0.21 yuan/10,000 tokens).
