Hainan Airport Launches First Autonomous Driving Shuttle Project

TapTechNews July 18th news, the official of Hainan Airport announced that the first airport open-road autonomous driving demonstration stage project in Hainan Free Trade Port has been launched on July 17th, and this is also the first airport autonomous driving technology applied in Hainan.

According to the introduction, this main autonomous driving shuttle is mainly used for the loop connection between T1 and T2 viaducts. Passengers can take the free autonomous driving shuttle outside the No. 5 gate of the T1 and T2 departure halls. The operating time is from 07:00 to 04:00 the next day, and there is one shuttle every 30 minutes.

The autonomous driving shuttle combined with the intelligent driving system carried by the vehicle and the ability of lidar can perceive the position, speed, size, direction, etc. of the target seen, and realize the detection and tracking of the surrounding environment of the vehicle, providing safe, accurate and efficient decision-making planning for the autonomous driving shuttle.

TapTechNews noticed that although this autonomous driving shuttle has no driver, there will be a safety officer on each vehicle, and the safety officer will follow the vehicle throughout to prepare to handle unexpected situations.
