Microsoft Introduces New Features in Outlook to Combat Spam and Malicious Emails

TapTechNews reported on May 14th that Microsoft recently released a press release inviting members of the Microsoft 365 Insider program to test the new version of the Outlook email application, which introduces several new features mainly to combat spam and malicious emails, enhancing users' trust in Outlook.

Microsoft has significantly improved the spam email handling capabilities in the new version of Outlook, defining spam emails as unwanted and unsolicited email messages that appear in the inbox.

They may come from companies that simply want to advertise their products or services. Some spam emails are known as phishing emails, disguising themselves as coming from trusted sources such as banks or credit card companies in an attempt to steal your information.

Microsoft mainly enhances the ability to resist spam and malicious emails from three aspects. TapTechNews has listed them as follows:

Display sender email address in spam email list

Display the sender's email address next to the sender's name in the spam email folder email list, which Microsoft says can save users time in investigating the legitimacy of emails.

Users do not need to click on the email or hover over the sender's name to quickly judge if the email is legitimate.

Issue a warning before clicking links in the spam email folder

When viewing the content of emails in the spam email folder, Microsoft will remind you not to click on any links contained within to prevent you from investigating a potentially suspicious email.

Report, block, or unsubscribe

After reporting an email as spam or phishing, you can now also block or unsubscribe, thereby no longer receiving emails from that sender.
