Microsoft Closes Africa Development Center in Nigeria

TapTechNews on June 17. According to foreign media Techloy, Microsoft has closed its Africa Development Center (ADC) in Nigeria. This closure plan was first confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson on May 8.

According to the Microsoft official website, the Africa Development Center (ADC) was established in May 2019 and is Microsoft's first development center in Africa. It has offices in both Nairobi, Kenya and Lagos, Nigeria, aiming to enable African talents to create solutions that have an impact on the local and global levels.

It is reported that Microsoft has informed thereorganization plan for more than 200 employees at the Lagos center in Nigeria and will terminate the relevant labor relations after paying all employee salaries and other related expenses at the end of June. But the employees in Nairobi, Kenya have not received relevant notifications.

Microsoft claims that the center is still operating, and the relevant contact information of the Nairobi center can still be seen on its official website. TapTechNews noticed that the contact information of the Microsoft Africa Development Center (Lagos center in Nigeria) has been deleted. Internal sources confirm that the Lagos center in Nigeria is still operating on a small scale, such as customer service and product support, and the engineers performing this work have not been affected for the time being.
