Google CEO threatens legal action against OpenAI over YouTube training data

TapTechNews reported on May 17th that CNBC reported that Google CEO Sundar Pichai said: If it is confirmed that the OpenAI supported by Microsoft relies on YouTube content to train artificial intelligence models that can generate videos, Google will address the issue (take legal action).

TapTechNews previously reported that OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer was unclear in an interview and could not specify the source of training data for Sora. When asked specifically whether the source includes YouTube videos, she actually said I'm actually not sure.

When asked whether OpenAI might violate Google's terms and conditions, Pichai responded: I think that's a question they (OpenAI) need to answer, and I have nothing to add. We do have clear terms of service, and usually in these things we would engage with (other) companies to make sure that they understand our terms of service. We will address it.

To compete with OpenAI's Sora, on May 15th, Google launched Veo at the 2024 I/O developer conference, which can generate high-quality videos longer than 1 minute, with a maximum resolution of 1080P, and various visual and film styles.

In addition, he also talked about Apple, saying: We focus on providing excellent experiences for the Apple ecosystem, which is something we value very much and I am confident in. You can see today that the AI Overview feature was very popular when tested on iOS, so we will continue to bring more features including Gemini to the Apple ecosystem.
