Elon Musk has said that this project is crucial to Tesla. In recent years, he has shifted Tesla's focus to artificial intelligence, which requires strong computing power.

TapTechNews noted that earlier this year, there were reports that Tesla encountered problems in the new expansion project of the Texas Super Factory, which was designed to accommodate a new giant supercomputer for training Tesla's AI. At that time, the news said that Tesla planned to build a 100-megawatt cluster by August to coincide with the later-delayed debut of its robotaxi. Elon Musk canceled other projects of Tesla in order to focus construction resources on the expansion.

Later, Elon Musk revealed that Tesla plans to eventually expand the cluster to more than 500 megawatts and use half of Nvidia processors and half of its own AI hardware. Tesla plans to use this computing power to train its neural network to achieve its long-promised self-driving function.

Now it's the end of August, and Elon Musk released a video showing the supercomputer cluster (now known as Cortex), the video only shows a small part of the cluster, which is not completed and not yet operational. People familiar with the matter told Electrek that the cluster is currently using a temporary cooling system and will not be fully operational until the chiller is completed. In addition, Tesla needs more network feeders. Some people believe that the cluster will not be ready until October, which is the new release time of the Tesla robotaxi project.
