Google Plans to Add New Taskbar Options in Android 15 for Phones

TapTechNews August 6th news, the tech media AndroidAuthority released a blog post today (August 6th), reporting that Google plans to bring the tablet-like taskbar experience to phones in the Android 15 system.

Android Taskbar

The Google Android taskbar can be traced back to the Android 12L version released in 2022, which is an Android version developed for large-screen devices.

In the Android 12L version, the Android taskbar is located at the bottom of the screen and can hold applications, occupying the entire screen width and cannot be hidden.

In the Android 13 system, Google further optimized the taskbar and it can be hidden by long-pressing an empty area.

In the second QPR version of Android 13, the taskbar was changed to an instantaneous taskbar, which only shows briefly on the screen. When the user swipes up the navigation handle, the new instantaneous taskbar will show briefly and if the user doesn't interact with it, the taskbar will disappear after a few seconds.

And in the Android 15 system, Google plans to add new options for users to freely choose between the old and new versions.

Android 15 brings a 'tiny' taskbar to phones

The source also said that Google has brought a 'tiny' taskbar function in the Android 15 system, and TapTechNews attaches the demonstration video as follows:

Judging from the video, Google's 'tiny' taskbar is exactly the same as the full version taskbar for large-screen devices, and there is no need to adjust the text and display ratio.
