Advanced Attosecond Laser Facility to Start Construction in Dongguan, China

TapTechNews September 29th news, the Administrative Committee of Dongguan Songshan Lake High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Guangdong Province announced that the advanced attosecond laser facility has officially obtained the budget approval from the National Development and Reform Commission, and the project is about to start construction.

TapTechNews note: An attosecond (attosecond) is an international unit of time, which is 10-18 seconds. Proportionally, an attosecond to a second is like a second to 31.71 billion years.

Humans want to observe the movement of electrons and study the dynamic process of electrons, and need to fully utilize the advanced attosecond laser facility. The attosecond laser provides a brand-new technical means for studying major basic scientific issues in disciplines such as physics, chemistry, materials, information, and biomedicine. The 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to scientists in the field of attosecond lasers.

After the advanced attosecond laser facility is completed, it will become the first in Asia and the second in the world for an attosecond laser large-scale scientific device. This device is also expected to become the second national major scientific and technological infrastructure construction project welcomed by Songshan Lake Science City this year. At the end of March this year, the second phase of the China Spallation Neutron Source, a national major scientific and technological infrastructure, was started and is expected to be completed in 2029.
