A document from Tesla's fourth quarter last year showed that as of December 31st last year, Tesla had 140,473 employees globally, including hourly and salaried workers. This indicates that the automaker has laid off over 14% so far this year. And Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in April this year that Tesla would lay off more than 10% globally.

It should be noted that the latest data viewed by CNBC does not come from precise payroll data, but from the number on the Tesla All Personnel email distribution list as of June 17th.

Elon Musk, the chief executive officer of Tesla, sent an email to All Personnel that day. He told the employees: In the next few weeks, Tesla will conduct a comprehensive review and offer stock option awards to outstanding employees. He added that the option grants would also be given to anyone who has made outstanding contributions to the company.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, Elon Musk sent an all-round email on April 15, stating that Tesla would cut 10% of its employees globally, affecting more than 14,000 people, and its main markets of the US and China became the hardest hit areas.

Elon Musk said: Over the years, we have grown rapidly and have multiple factories around the world. With this rapid growth, there is duplication in certain roles and job functions. Elon Musk insists that layoffs are necessary in order to keep Tesla lean and innovative and hungry for the next growth stage cycle.
