In May this year, Nintendo confirmed that it will announce the next-generation console within its fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. Dring said, All the developers I interviewed don't think it will be launched in this fiscal year. In fact, they have been told not to expect the new console to be launched in this fiscal year. Some of the people I interviewed hope it can be launched in April or May next year, that is, in the first half of next year. We all don't want Switch 2 to be postponed, because everyone wants a new Nintendo console, and everyone is very excited about it, and we don't want it to clash with games like GTA6 and put huge pressure on developers.

TapTechNews noted that the Switch was launched in March 2017 and has gone through eight years. In July this year, the Switch surpassed the Famicom and became the longest-serving console in Nintendo's history.

In the first-quarter financial report released this month, Nintendo said that as of June 30, 2024, the sales of the Switch have reached 143.42 million units. They expect to sell 13.5 million Switch consoles in this fiscal year, of which 2.1 million units have been sold in the first quarter.

If Nintendo can reach its hardware sales target, then the Switch will be infinitely close to the historical record of console sales currently held by the PS2.
