Apple's September Product Updates and Discontinuations

TapTechNews August 26th news, Apple's annual autumn event usually takes place in September, and this year is no exception. It is expected to release products such as iPhone 16, new AirPods, and new Apple Watch on September 10. However, the introduction of new products also means the discontinuation of old products. According to 9to5Mac, here are several Apple products that are expected to be removed from the Apple Store next month.

Apples September Product Updates and Discontinuations_0

iPhone 15Pro and iPhone 15ProMax

Since the introduction of iPhone XS and XR in 2018, Apple has been accustomed to discontinuing the flagship iPhone after one year of its release. The reason might be that they are too similar. If users want to save money, Apple prefers them to buy the entry-level iPhone. Therefore, we are likely to bid farewell to Apple's first titanium alloy iPhone next month.

TapTechNews noted that iPhone 15Pro may also be the last Pro series iPhone with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens, as the iPhone 16Pro is expected to have a larger display. The blue titanium alloy color of iPhone 15Pro is also likely to disappear in the iPhone 16Pro series.

iPhone 14Plus

iPhone 14Plus is Apple's first entry-level large-screen iPhone, equipped with the same 6.7-inch display and long battery life as the ProMax series, but at a lower price. iPhone 14Plus also reintroduced the Plus brand for the first time since iPhone 8Plus in 2017.

Last September, Apple discontinued iPhone 13mini but continued to sell iPhone 13, so a similar strategy may be adopted this year, that is, discontinuing iPhone 14Plus, and iPhone 14 will continue to be sold for a while.

iPhone 13

Apple launched iPhone 13 in 2021, with longer battery life, a new camera system, and a smaller notch and other upgrades. However, it is now nearly 3 years old and is the oldest iPhone sold on Apple's official website.

If history repeats itself, iPhone 13 will also be discontinued and iPhone 14 will replace it as the product at the $599 price point - at least until the release of iPhone SE4.

AppleWatch Series 9, Ultra2 and SE2

All three AppleWatch models are expected to be updated next month. Series 10 is expected to be equipped with a larger (more efficient) display, a thinner case, and possibly a new chipset. Ultra3 is also expected to have a minor update this year, and SE3 is rumored to switch to a plastic case to reduce the price.

If all Apple Watches are updated, Apple is likely to stop selling the current-generation Series 9, Ultra2, and SE2 models.

AirPods 2 and AirPods 3

Apple has been selling AirPods 2 since 2019 as an entry-level product that provides all the basic functions at an affordable price. Although AirPods 3 were launched in 2021 with spatial audio, better sound quality, and other features, Apple still retains AirPods 2 in the product lineup. However, this situation should change soon.

Next month, Apple is expected to introduce two new AirPods 4 models, an entry-level model will replace AirPods 2, and a mid-range model will replace AirPods 3. The mid-range model is expected to include noise-canceling features, which the existing AirPods 2 does not have. With the introduction of these two AirPods models, both AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 are likely to be discontinued.

iPad mini 6 and iPad 10

Apple's cheapest two iPads - iPad mini 6 and iPad 10 should be updated next month. Although Apple reduced the price of iPad 10 earlier this year, there are rumors that it will still be updated. Once Apple launches iPad 11, iPad 10 may still be sold at a lower price, but it is more likely to be discontinued.

If you are considering buying any of these products, it is best to wait unti l September to decide.
