Tesla's Automatic Wiper Function Gets an Upgrade

In May 2023, Tesla CEO Elon Musk explained the defect in the automatic windshield wiper function, stating that the automatic windshield wiper is one of the neural networks that has not been updated to the surround video yet. In February 2024, Yun-Ta Tsai, a senior artificial intelligence engineer at Tesla, hinted that this function is about to be improved.

Now it seems that the improvement has finally started to be pushed out, but the improvement method is somewhat unexpected. According to the information from Tesla's 2024.14 spring update, the automatic windshield wiper will now increase the sensitivity when the driver presses the wiper button: When the wiper is set to the automatic mode, pressing the wiper button will temporarily increase the sensitivity of the wiper. It should be noted that this function is only valid in the automatic windshield wiper mode.

Regarding this, Teslarati said that the automatic windshield wiper has become a major problem for engineers compared to the fully autonomous driving (FSD) system that Tesla has been actively optimizing.
