Google Terminates Android 5.X Support After Nearly 10 Years_0

Today Google announced the official termination of support for the Android 5 (5.X) version, and the Google Play services of series devices will no longer be updated. Google mentioned that currently less than 1% of active devices are running the Android 5.0-5.1.1 version, so now it is time to invest relevant resources in other aspects.

Android 5.X was first released in November 2014 and has been nearly 10 years so far. Up to now, we have introduced many innovative improvements and functions for this system, which cannot be used on Android 5.X. Today, we announce the cessation of providing Google Play service updates for Android 5.X devices because these devices account for less than 1% of active devices. Series devices will continue to operate but will not receive any new functions and important security updates, and may be incompatible with some applications. We strongly recommend that users upgrade to a newer Android version to obtain the latest functions and security enhancements.

Referring to the previous report of TapTechNews, Google terminated the support of Android 4.4 (Android 4.4 KitKat) last July; referring to the Google support page, currently Google supports at least Android 6.0 (Android 6.0 Marshmallow), and it is expected that this version will stop being supported next July.
