Microsoft to Introduce New Speech Recognition Feature in PowerPoint Web Version

TapTechNews May 16th news, Microsoft has previewed that it will introduce new speech recognition feature for the web version of PowerPoint in June this year, which can listen to the audio in PowerPoint videos and automatically generate subtitles.

Microsoft enhanced the web version of PowerPoint in December 2023, allowing users to insert subtitles into videos, but currently only supports WebVTT format.

Microsoft stated that once this feature is enabled, users can insert videos into presentation documents, click on the subtitle option, select the most suitable language for the video from 63 supported languages, and then click on generate subtitles. TapTechNews attached a screenshot as follows:

The company said that this feature will scan a two-hour video in the PowerPoint application and generate subtitles within minutes. After completion, users can click the Edit Subtitles button to modify the automatic subtitles. When users see the part of the subtitles that needs to be edited, the video will play automatically.
