Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen Model Tech Director Zhou Chang to Leave for Start-up

TapTechNews July 18th news, according to 36Kr reports, Zhou Chang (alias: Zhong Huang), the technical director of Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen large model, will leave Alibaba Cloud to start his own business.

It is reported that Zhou Chang is still in the Alibaba Cloud system and has not officially left yet. But the media learned from multiple independent sources that Zhou Chang has definitely decided to start a business. One source said that Zhou Chang may devote himself to the field of AI applications.

While another insider said, Zhou Chang is one of the core technical backbones of the Tongyi laboratory algorithm team and it is a normal resignation. The research and development and open source work of the Tongyi large model are still ongoing, and currently the head of the Tongyi laboratory is Zhou Jingren, the CTO of Alibaba Cloud.

Tongyi Qianwen was first announced in April 2023 and has now been updated to version 2.5, claiming to outperform GPT-4 in multiple capabilities such as text understanding, text generation, knowledge Q&A & life advice, chatting & conversation, and security risks in the Chinese context.

At the 2024 Shanghai World Artificial Intelligence Conference earlier this month, Zhou Jingren, the CTO of Alibaba Cloud, disclosed that in the past nearly two months, the download volume of the open source model of Tongyi Qianwen has increased by 2 times, exceeding 20 million times.
