The chief negotiator of the labor union, Thorsten Gröger, said: We will not negotiate on plant closures and large-scale layoffs. If Volkswagen insists on its layoff plan, then thousands of colleagues will force the company back on track.

Since this year, Volkswagen has frequently taken measures of layoffs and plant closures, resulting in increasingly tense internal relations. Previously, Volkswagen had a conflict with the German Metalworkers' Union (IG Metall), which has stated that it will resist any actions of layoffs and plant closures.

TapTechNews noted that in the middle of this month, Volkswagen announced the termination of an employment guarantee agreement that has been in existence for more than 30 years. This agreement was originally supposed to protect the jobs of employees until 2029, but now it will end prematurely in the middle of next year.
