TapTechNews August 22nd news, according to reports from several Taiwan media, AMD will establish R & D centers in Tainan and Kaohsiung in Taiwan, China, and cooperate with universities and practitioners.

AMD will invite 33 Taiwanese manufacturers in China to jointly participate in the R & D. This plan will help train more than 10,000 AI professionals every year within three years.

These new facilities are part of a project costing 8.64 billion New Taiwan dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 1.929 billion yuan). It aims to promote the development of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and silicon photonics.

AMD did not respond why it chose two R & D centers instead of one. TapTechNews noticed that Tainan is the birthplace of AMD CEO Lisa Su, and it is also the main manufacturing center of TSMC's 3-nanometer chip for artificial intelligence equipment. TSMC is also building a new factory in Kaohsiung to produce the next-generation 2-nanometer chip.

In addition, the AI chip giant NVIDIA has established its first AI R & D center in Neihu District, Taipei, and is looking for a second R & D center, which is expected to be located in Kaohsiung.
