CATL's Luoyang Base Starts Production, Kirin Battery Debuts with Advanced Technology

TapTechNews July 20th news, today, the battery factory of the first phase project of CATL's Luoyang base officially announced its commissioning, and the first Kirin battery was completed and packaged in Luoyang. In addition, the second phase project of CATL's Luoyang base has started construction to further expand the high-end new energy battery production capacity.

The 'Luoyang Zhongzhou Times New Energy Production Base Project' of CATL is located in Yibin District, Luoyang City, with a planned land area of 1700 mu (about 113.33 hectares), mainly building various components in the field of new energy vehicle batteries. Among them, the first phase project covers an area of 850 mu (about 56.67 hectares) with a planned annual production capacity of 30 GWh and started construction in September 2022; the second phase project covers about 700 mu (about 46.67 hectares) with a planned annual production capacity of 30 GWh and started construction in May 2024.

As a major landmark project of Luoyang closely following the trend and accurately attracting investment and leading development with innovation, the first phase project of CATL's Luoyang base is built according to the 'lighthouse factory' standard. It is expected that after the project is fully operational, the annual output value will be 107.2 billion US dollars and the annual tax revenue will be 6.74 billion US dollars, driving nearly 20,000 people to get employment.

At the same time, as the project is landed, its supporting industrial chain projects will also be gradually laid out, driving the annual output value of upstream and downstream supporting industries and related service industries to nearly 200 billion US dollars.

Officials said that CATL's Luoyang base is one of the thirteen major production bases globally arranged by CATL, creating the 'Luoyang speed' of '100 days for docking and signing, 100 days for project landing, and 9 months for the first phase of the plant to be capped'. TapTechNews learned from the officials that the Kirin battery put into production this time adopts CATL's third-generation CTP technology, and the system integration degree is the highest in the world, which can easily achieve a 1000-mile (about 1609.34 kilometers) range of the whole vehicle and 4C fast charging.
