Intel's Efforts in Preparing for LunarLake and Ray Tracing Support

TapTechNews May 30th - According to a report by the tech media Phoronix, since Intel uploaded a new merge request in MESA 24.2, Intel engineers have been busy preparing the driver for the upcoming LunarLake architecture, with a focus on enabling the Xe2 graphics architecture to preliminarily support ray tracing.

Intel has uploaded multiple Linux patches to add initial values for the LunarLake device information, including the graphics PCI device ID.

Intel also added an INTEL_FORCE_PROBE environment variable for the relevant PCIID, which allows the LunarLake graphics architecture to run the driver compatibly even without full support.

The new graphics device IDs include 0x6420, 0x64a0, 0x64b0, and some experimental variables. Among the 11 newly added patches, it is also mentioned that Xe2 has early support for ray tracing. TapTechNews attaches the related pictures as follows:
