Intel's Battlemage GPUs Discovery and Implications for Linux Support

According to TapTechNews on June 29th, technology media Phoronix reported that in the DRM-Next code of the Linux 6.11 kernel, at least 5 Battlemage GPU models were discovered, suggesting that the number of SKUs of Intel's first batch of Battlemage GPUs might be less than that of Arc Alchemist.

In the Linux 6.11 kernel code, 5 PCIIDs of Battlemage GPUs were found. In contrast, Intel reserved 32 PCIIDs for the Arc A series GPUs. TapTechNews attached the IDs of Battlemage GPUs as follows:

0xE202

0xE20B

0xE20C

0xE20D

0xE212

The significant reduction in the number of Battlemage PCIIDs may indicate that Intel will significantly reduce the number of planned independent Battlemage GPU models, including game, mobile, and workstation derivative versions.

The support for Battlemage in Linux is still in its infancy. When using Battlemage GPUs, the Linux Intel Xe driver will default to disabling hardware-accelerated 3D graphics.
