Volkswagen Announces New GTI Special Edition Model for 50th Anniversary of Classic Golf Debut

TapTechNews May 14th news, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the classic golf model debut (1974), Volkswagen announced that it will launch a new GTI special edition model during the Nürburgring 24 Hours Race on May 31. In addition, Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer also released a pixel-style teaser image.

The new model is equipped with a more sporty front bumper with an extended lower apron. Other details are not yet known, but it is expected to include an improved rear bumper, new style wheels, and customized interior decorations.

Given Volkswagen's tendency to release an anniversary edition model every five years, some speculate that the new car may be named Clubsport 50 or Edition 50 (TapTechNews note: the GTI ClubSport 45 was released in 2021).

For reference, the 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI US version has a power of 241 horsepower and torque of 273 lb-ft. It is currently unknown which markets the new special edition will be sold in.
