Paint 3D was released by Microsoft in October 2016, when Microsoft was focusing on the 3D field. After releasing Hololens, Microsoft hoped that its software could also provide 3D-related functions. Initially, Microsoft expected people to use this new application to create 3D works instead of creating 2D works as in the old Paint application.

Foreign media Neowin reported that, in fact, the original design purpose of Paint 3D was to completely replace the old Paint application on Windows 10.

As expected, the newly launched Paint 3D application did not get the expected response, and Microsoft continued to provide support for both the old Paint and the new Paint 3D at the same time. In 2021, the Windows 10 build 21332 version was released, and Microsoft removed the integration of Paint 3D in this version of the operating system.

Correspondingly, Microsoft has added some new features to the built-in Paint application for Windows 10/11 in recent years. According to TapTechNews' previous report, last November, Microsoft pushed the Paint application integrated with DALL-E3 to all Windows 11 users, which can generate corresponding pictures according to the text prompt input by users. However, this function is only available to users in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia and other places.
