AI-Driven Talent Recognition System in Olympics Discovering Future Champions

On August 9 Beijing time, Olympic enthusiasts are trying an AI-driven talent recognition system, striving to discover future gold medal winners. Its developers hope to bring advanced sports science and technology to remote areas around the world using a portable version of this technology.

Exploring the Principle

The data in the system comes from five tests including activities such as running, jumping, and grip strength measurement. After the test is completed, the system will analyze this information to assess an individual's strength, explosiveness, endurance, reaction time, power, and agility. Eventually, the test results will be used to compare with the data of Olympic professional athletes.

We use computer vision and historical data to allow ordinary people to compare with elite athletes and understand which sport they are most suitable for. Sarah Vickers, head of Intel's Olympic and Paralympic projects, said. After the test is completed, each participant will be informed of the 10 sports that are most suitable for them. Intel says all the collected data of the participants will be deleted after the process is completed.

Portable and Efficient

This year, the AI system open to fans at the Paris Olympics has a smaller and more portable version that can run on most devices equipped with basic cameras and computing power. This AI technology can evaluate people's performance by analyzing the video from the camera without relying on physical sensors.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently brought this system to Senegal. After a round of more advanced follow-up tests, the system identified 48 children with huge potential and one child with extraordinary potential. The IOC hopes this technology can be further promoted to provide opportunities for people in more areas.

How to Experience

A pair of siblings, Tacto and Tomo from Japan, participated in the AI test set up near the Paris Olympic Stadium. It's great, Tacto said. I like the part of the test that requires sprinting the most.
