FlowComputing Develops New Chip to Double CPU Performance

TapTechNews June 19th news, a Finnish company named FlowComputing announced a new research result, successfully developing a brand-new chip that can double the CPU performance and can improve the performance by up to 100 times through software optimization.

FlowComputing demonstrated a brand-new parallel processing unit (PPU), and TimoValtonen, the company's co-founder and chief executive officer, believes this technology has broad application prospects: The CPU is the weakest link in computing. It is not capable of fulfilling its tasks, and this needs to change.

This chip technology involves a companion chip, which can optimize processing tasks in real-time without generating additional power consumption or more heat, and transforms traditional serial processing into parallel operation. This change is like expanding the central processor from a single-lane to a multi-lane highway, thereby improving efficiency and processing speed.

Flow technology enhances the CPU's function by managing tasks at nanosecond intervals and supporting multiple processes to run simultaneously, thus increasing throughput without changing the CPU clock speed or structure.

Valtonen also frankly admitted that this technology has great challenges in promotion and needs to be incorporated in the chip design stage, so it will disrupt the current production methods.

Flow company has proven that its technology can be used in FPGA-based tests and has received an initial capital of 4 million euros (TapTechNews note: currently about 31.187 million Chinese yuan) and the support of several venture capital companies. It is currently seeking partners in the industry to further develop and promote its solution.
