Huawei Considering 20% commission in Hongmeng App Store

TapTechNews reported on June 18 that Bloomberg reported that Huawei is considering charging a 20% commission in its Hongmeng App Store, which is lower than that of Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store.

Apple and Google charge a 30% commission on applications, games, movies or music subscriptions purchased through their app stores. So far, Huawei has not charged a commission for non-game in-app purchases in the Hongmeng App Store.

Most of the revenue of the app store comes from channel-server games. Sources said that Huawei is discussing a 20% commission with game developers. Huawei wants to attract developers to make games for its system by reducing the commission. And some Chinese mobile phone manufacturers have a draw as high as 50% for in-app purchases of their channel-server games.

Since the release of Mate 60Pro last year, the demand for Huawei smartphones has increased. As TapTechNews previously reported, in the first quarter of this year, as Huawei won market share from Apple and other companies, the company's net profit increased by 564%. Data from Counterpoint Research shows that in the first quarter of this year, Huawei's Hongmeng operating system also surpassed iOS in the Chinese market share.
