Sony Music Group not allowing AI companies to use assets for training without authorization

TapTechNews May 17th news, according to a new report from Bloomberg, Sony Music Group is notifying major AI companies not to use the company's assets for model training without authorization.

TapTechNews has learned that Sony Music has sent letters to over 700 companies to protect its intellectual property. Sony mentioned that any AI company must not use Sony's album cover art, music works, lyrics, and other content without explicit permission.

Copyright has always been a headache in AI model training. Incidents of AI models infringing the original author's copyright have become increasingly common. Referencing TapTechNews' previous report, in April this year, US Congressman Adam Schiff proposed a new bill suggesting that AI companies should disclose the use of copyrighted training data, or face economic penalties.
