The battle between Samsung and Apple can be said to have begun in 2010, with Samsung's Galaxy series competing against Apple's iPhone.

The two companies have been vying for the title of the world's largest smartphone supplier, each holding about 20% of the market share. Overall, Samsung has been ahead of Apple in terms of shipments for many years, thanks to the Galaxy A series phones.

According to IDC's global quarterly phone tracking survey, Samsung's smartphone shipments have reached nearly 3 billion units in the past decade, 33% higher than Apple.

2014 was the best year for Samsung's Galaxy series sales, with global smartphone shipments totaling 292.3 million units. By the end of 2022, the company's annual shipments had fallen by 18% to 258 million units.

In the first quarter of 2024, Samsung's market share in the global smartphone market was 20.8%, down from 30.7% in the first quarter of 2014.

On the other hand, Apple's annual shipments have also increased during this period. From 2014 to 2015, iPhone sales surged by 20% to 231 million units.

Since 2019, iPhone sales have surged by 22%, reaching 231.8 million units last year, the highest number ever reported by the company. Apple's market share has increased by 2% during this period, reaching 17.3% in the first quarter of this year.
