China's Electricity Consumption Situation in August and January-August 2024

Electricity consumption in August

In August, the electricity consumption of the whole society was 964.9 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 8.9%.

The electricity consumption of the primary industry (usually referring to agriculture, including production activities directly related to natural resources such as planting, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery) was 14.9 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 4.6%;

The electricity consumption of the secondary industry (usually referring to the industrial production field, including manufacturing, mining, construction, etc.) was 567.9 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 4%;

The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry (usually referring to the service industry, including finance, education, medical care, retail, catering, entertainment, etc.) was 190.3 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 11.2%.

The electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 191.8 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 23.7%.

Electricity consumption from January to August

The cumulative electricity consumption of the whole society was 6561.9 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 7.9%, among which the power generation of industrial enterprises above designated size was 6237.9 billion kilowatt-hours.

The electricity consumption of the primary industry was 91.4 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 7%;

The electricity consumption of the secondary industry was 4200.6 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 6.3%;

The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry was 1230.1 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 11%.

The electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 1039.8 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 10.9%.

For comparison, the electricity consumption of the whole society in July this year was 939.6 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 5.7%. The electricity consumption of the primary industry was 14.2 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 1.5%; the electricity consumption of the secondary industry was 565.6 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 5.0%; the electricity consumption of the tertiary industry was 187.1 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 7.8%; the electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 172.7 billion kilowatt-hours, with a year-on-year increase of 5.9%.
