Apple Launches Tap to Pay Service in Japan

TapTechNews May 17th, Apple today announced the launch of Tap to Pay service in Japan, where local merchants can complete contactless payments simply through iPhone. As of today, local small and medium-sized enterprises, independent sellers or large retailers can use the iPhone as a payment terminal.

Apple claims that all transactions are encrypted and the company does not have any information about the purchased content or the buyer. Through an App compatible with this service, enterprises can allow customers to bring their contactless payment credit or debit card, iPhone, Apple Watch and other devices close to the iPhone held by the enterprise at checkout and complete the payment through NFC.

TapTechNews note: Apple launched the Tap to Pay function in May 2022, and merchants can use the iPhone and iOS App that supports cooperative merchants to accept ApplePay and other contactless payments. Through Tap to Pay on iPhone, merchants do not need to use additional hardware to accept contactless payments.

The Tap to Pay function focuses on receiving payments and does not require additional hardware to accept contactless payments. It can be completed with just an iPhone XS or a newer iPhone. Simply put, it turns your iPhone into a mobile credit card machine.
