Users can choose Apple TV or HomePod as the HomeHub of the family to remotely control HomeKit and Matter accessories. TapTechNews note: Currently, although users can set multiple devices as HomeHubs, they cannot specify a certain Hub as the preferred HomeHub.

The Home app of Apple's iOS 18 system adds a new option, allowing users to select AppleTV and HomePods connected to HomeKit and choose one of them as the preferred HomeHub. After the user chooses to enable it, the selected HomeHub will be used to remotely control other home accessories, and only other devices will be used when the preferred device is not available.

For users with multiple AppleTVs or HomePods in their homes, this feature is very useful. Previously, the HomeKit system might have chosen to send HomeKit commands through an older model with a slower wireless connection, but now users can specify to choose AppleTV or HomePods with a wired connection.
