China-Brazil Aerospace Cooperation 30+ Years and Counting

TapTechNews May 17th news, the aerospace cooperation between China and Brazil has a history of more than 30 years (in July 1988, China and Brazil signed an agreement on approving the development of earth resource satellites). Previously, they have jointly developed several China-Brazil earth resource satellites, providing more than 500,000 scenes of remote sensing satellite data for many developing countries in regions such as Latin America, Africa, and ASEAN.

The National Space Administration now officially announces that on May 16th, Director Zhang Kejian and Director Marco Antonio Chamon of the Brazilian Space Agency jointly chaired the 7th meeting of the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee Aerospace Cooperation Subcommittee in a video format. At the meeting, both sides agreed to continue promoting the cooperation progress in the China-Brazil earth resource satellites, space weather laboratory, BRICS remote sensing satellite constellation, talent exchange and training, etc., and signed the meeting minutes.

On October 14, 1999, the China-Brazil earth resource satellite 01 jointly developed by the China Academy of Space Technology and the Brazilian Space Research Institute was successfully launched into space. This satellite is the first real-time transmission-type earth remote sensing satellite with the most technical difficulties and the most extensive uses in China, creating a record of being put into application immediately after the first successful launch in the history of China's satellite development, and is known as a model of South-South cooperation.

Since 1999, China and Brazil have cooperated to launch 5 earth resource satellites, which are widely used in many fields such as environmental protection and monitoring, land and resources exploration, and disaster monitoring. While improving the aerospace management and technical level of the two countries, it has effectively served the economic and social development.

The National Space Administration also announced last year that it signed the Supplementary Protocol between the People's Republic of China and the Federative Republic of Brazil on the Cooperative Development of the Earth Resource Satellite 06 and the 2023-2032 Aerospace Cooperation Plan between the China National Space Administration and the Brazilian Space Agency.

TapTechNews science popularization: The China-Brazil earth resource satellite (CBERS, also known as Resource No. 1) is China's first-generation transmission-type earth resource satellite, consisting of five satellites including the China-Brazil earth resource satellite 01, 02, 02B (all have retired), 02C, and 04. In the future, the two countries will also carry out the demonstration work of the China-Brazil earth resource satellite 05 and 06 as soon as possible, prioritize the compilation of the technical plan for the China-Brazil earth resource satellite 06; continue to promote cooperation in the fields of space technology, application, science, and personnel training, further improve the cooperation level in the aerospace field between the two sides, and provide guidance for the aerospace cooperation between China and Brazil in the next 10 years, etc.
