TapTechNews noticed that when Windows 11 was released in October 2021, the market share of Windows 10 was as high as 81.44%. However, as time goes by, Win10 gradually gives way to Win11. By June 2024, the market share of Win10 has fallen below the 70% mark, while Win11 has climbed to nearly 30%.

According to the data analysis of Statcounter in the recent three months (April-June 2024), the market share of Win10 has experienced the following fluctuations:

In April, the market share of Win10 once rose back to 69.89%.

In May, it decreased by 1.55%.

In June, it further decreased by 2.14%, and finally fell to 66.2%, hitting a new low.

On the other hand, the market share of Win11 has continued to increase since April. Thanks to the increased attention of the Co-pilot+PC function, the market share of Win11 increased by 1.48% and 1.96% in May and June respectively, and finally the market share reached 29.63%, hitting a new high. If this trend continues, Win11 will soon break through the 30% market share mark.

Looking forward to the future, Win10, which will soon enter its tenth year, will officially stop support on October 14, 2025. Its successor, Win11, puts forward higher requirements for hardware configuration, such as mandatory support for UEFI, TPM2.0, SecureBoot, etc., and requires more storage space and memory. For some portable computers and special devices (such as kiosks) that are difficult to upgrade the hardware, replacing with a brand new Win11 computer will be the only choice.

For enterprise users, considering security, even if Windows 10 provides paid extended support services, this system cannot be used for a long time. Individual users should also avoid using the operating system that does not receive security update protection.

Microsoft also plans to provide additional support services for Win10, but the specific price has not been announced yet. It is expected that the extended security update (ESU) service for the consumer version will also follow the previous expensive pricing strategy. It should be noted that the extended support service can only ensure the system security and will not bring any new function updates.
