Ideal L6's Suspension Details and Chassis Configurations

TapTechNews August 25th news, Li Auto yesterday released a statement to explain the suspension material usage situation of the L6 model. This car adopts the front double wishbone + rear five-link independent suspension commonly used in luxury midsize and large SUVs. The upper and lower wishbones and steering knuckles of the front suspension are all made of aluminum alloy materials.

TapTechNews sorts out the details of Li Auto's Q&A as follows:

What kind of suspension does the ideal L6 adopt?

The ideal L6 adopts the front double wishbone + rear five-link independent suspension commonly used in luxury midsize and large SUVs.

The front double wishbone + rear five-link independent suspension adopted by the ideal L6 can filter vibrations neatly after encountering an impact, and can also bring less body roll and better stability when cornering at high speed. Overall, this suspension combination has achieved a good balance among comfort, handling, and space efficiency.

Why does the rear suspension swing arm look so thin and what about its strength?

The rear suspension swing arm of the ideal L6 adopts the common single-plate stamping process, and the U-shaped cavity formed by high-strength steel stamping has very high structural strength. At the same time, the steel also has very good toughness, and in extreme use conditions, the stability is more guaranteed. Before the vehicle goes on the market, we have also conducted very strict chassis abuse tests, so please rest assured of the overall strength.

Why doesn't the rear suspension swing arm use aluminum?

There is no absolute superiority or inferiority between steel and aluminum, just different applicable scenarios.

As mentioned above, the single-plate stamping steel swing arm has excellent performance in all aspects and is the first choice for suspension swing arms. From practical experience, a structurally simple single-plate stamping swing arm is not necessarily heavier than an aluminum swing arm. Due to the characteristics of materials and processes, single-plate stamping swing arms are suitable for being made into relatively simple shapes. When encountering a relatively complex layout environment or forming requirements, aluminum will be a more appropriate choice.

The rear suspension swing arm of the ideal L6 is reasonably arranged, so all 5 swing arms use stamped high-strength steel materials.

Why is the lower control arm of the rear suspension silver, is it to 'pretend' to be aluminum?

The lower control arm of the rear suspension is made of steel, and the surface is a silver zinc-aluminum anti-corrosion coating. Because this swing arm is relatively close to the ground and may be impacted by foreign objects when passing through unpaved roads, we have specially added a zinc-aluminum anti-corrosion coating on the swing arm surface. This coating has strong resistance to stone impact and corrosion resistance, which can ensure no rust after long-term use, and anti-stone impact designs can be seen on the suspension swing arms of many luxury cars.

What materials are used in the front suspension?

The upper and lower wishbones and steering knuckles of the front suspension of the ideal L6 are all aluminum alloy materials. The shapes of the wishbones and steering knuckles of the front double wishbone suspension are relatively complex and large in volume, so aluminum alloy is a more appropriate choice.

What other notable chassis configurations does the ideal L6 have?

The ideal L6 comes standard with a CDC continuously variable damping shock absorber, which actively adjusts the damping every millisecond according to the road surface condition, making it more comfortable when passing through ditches and bumps, and has a driving and riding premium feeling in all road conditions. Currently, the suspension comfort of the ideal L6 has 2 modes and 6 styles adjustable, fully meeting individual needs. At the same time, the CDC control algorithm supports OTA upgrade, and is smart and growable.

The ideal L6 also comes standard with 4 hydraulic bushings in the front and rear, with the front 2 hydraulic bushings connected to the subframe, and the rear 2 hydraulic bushings connected to the body. Compared to ordinary rubber bushings, it can improve the softness when encountering an impact and make the aftershock decay quickly, making family members more comfortable when sitting.

The ideal L6 car was released in April this year, equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder range extender, dual-motor intelligent four-wheel drive, CDC sports suspension, 36.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate power battery (equipped with a heat management system with a heat pump), the peak power of the motor is 300 kilowatts, the peak torque is 529 Newton-meters, the zero to hundred acceleration is 5.4 seconds, the CLTC comprehensive working condition range is 1390 kilometers, and the pure electric range is 212 kilometers, and it supports 3.5 kilowatts of external discharge.
