Microsoft Announces How to Continue Using WMIC in Windows 11 After Elimination

TapTechNews July 13th news, Microsoft today released a press release introducing how Windows 11 users and administrators can continue to use this command-line interface tool after the elimination of WMIC.

TapTechNews reported in January this year that Microsoft plans to disable WMIC in the Windows 11 system and turn it into an on-demand feature (FoD), and users can continue to use WMIC according to their needs.

WMIC (Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line), is a command-line interface tool in the Windows system, used to obtain system and network information through the Windows Management Specification (WMI), and manage the Windows operating system and devices.

Microsoft first explained in the blog post that after the elimination of WMIC, when users use this command, it will pop up: wmic is not an internal or external command, nor is it a runnable program or batch file.

Users can follow these steps to fix this error in the Windows 11 system:

1. Open the Settings app and jump to the Optional Features of the system.

2. Click View Features next to the Add Optional Features option.

3. Type WMIC in the search box and tick it in the result list.

4. Click Next to install WMIC in Windows 11.

Microsoft said that it will completely remove WMIC in the Windows system in the future, but currently the official has not announced the specific date.
