Samsung SDI plans to start mass production of 46-series cylindrical batteries in early 2025, which is more than a year earlier than the original plan. Currently, Samsung SDI has established a production line in the factory in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, and through this, prototype products have been submitted to major customers such as General Motors for testing.

TapTechNews note: Different from the 4680 battery with a fixed height of 80 millimeters, Samsung SDI's 46-series battery only retains the same 46-millimeter diameter, while the height can be customized according to customer needs.

Samsung SDI's vice president of strategic marketing, Jo Han-gyeol, said: The development and mass production preparation work of our 46-series batteries are progressing smoothly. We have secured initial projects for micromobility applications such as e-bikes and will start mass production in early next year. We are also in active negotiations with major OEMs and look forward to achieving tangible results as soon as possible with our leading technology in energy density and fast charging.
